ABOUT UNIVERSITY
Yerevan State Medical University sits at the heart of Armenia’s capital, Yerevan, offering premier medical education. With over 31,000 alumni, it stands among Armenia’s most prestigious institutions for aspiring medical professionals. Today, the university educates around 8,000 students across six specialized faculties in diverse medical fields. Interestingly, over 1,180 students hail from different countries, enhancing its multicultural learning environment. It ranks among the top choices for international students pursuing MD degrees, equivalent to India’s MBBS program. Moreover, the university hosts more than 100 departments for instruction, clinical training, and advanced scientific research. Classes and research are conducted in top-tier hospitals and innovative medical research centers throughout Yerevan.
The university employs nearly 1,100 faculty members, including 171 experienced Doctors of Science and 504 Science Candidates. Additionally, seven RANAS Academicians actively contribute to both research and teaching within the institution. YSMU focuses on shaping expert medical professionals committed to improving global health and aiding humanity wherever required. Additionally, the academic calendar includes two semesters; the first runs from September 1 to December or January.
The university includes five core facilities: academic, administrative, laboratory, anatomical, and dental clinic buildings for student training. In addition, three major hospitals function under YSMU’s guidance, offering students essential real-world clinical exposure. Moreover, YSMU actively collaborates with over 30 partner hospitals to enhance practical education and hands-on experience.
Furthermore, the university maintains strong partnerships with medical schools and global health organizations worldwide, enhancing education quality. These collaborations include prestigious institutions from countries such as the USA, Germany, Greece, Italy, France, Belgium, Egypt, and Sweden. Since 2000, YSMU has joined multiple international bodies to strengthen its academic and medical education standards. Notable memberships include SGROUP European Network, the International Association of Universities, and the World Federation of Medical Education.
