About SEMEY State Medical University

Semey State Medical University (SSMU) stands as one of the most prestigious medical institutions in Kazakhstan, with a proud legacy dating back to 1952. The university was initially founded as Semipalatinsk State Medical Institute and, after over four decades, it was renamed Semey State Medical University in accordance with an order from the Health Services Committee of the Republic of Kazakhstan.

SSMU began its journey with the Faculty of Medicine in 1953, marking the start of a tradition of excellence in medical education. Over the years, the university expanded its academic offerings to include Pediatrics (1963), Stomatology (1991), as well as Medico-Prophylactic, Pharmaceutical, and General Medicine faculties in 2003. In 1984, SSMU also introduced post-diploma education programs in Pavlodar city, which now enroll around 1,000 doctors annually.

Today, Semey State Medical University is home to over 3,500 students pursuing degrees in General Medicine, Pediatrics, Dentistry (Stomatology), Pharmacy, and Preventive Medicine. The university offers advanced facilities and cutting-edge technology to deliver top-quality medical education.

SSMU is proud to have a highly qualified faculty of approximately 450 instructors, featuring 35 Doctors of Science, 168 PhD degree holders, one academician, three corresponding members of the Academy of Medical Sciences of Kazakhstan (AMS RK), and four corresponding members of the Academy of Natural Sciences (ANS RK).
